I just need help with part B(Advanced), so (a),(b),(c)
Thanks so much!!
Part A To reduce the extraordinarily long travel times for journeys from Earth to distant stars, it has been proposed to develop spaceships that travel near light speed, and make use of the phenomenon of time dilation. Suppose that we wish to visit the star Gliese 832 at a distance of 16.14 ly from Earth. Our spaceship has a launch weight of 30,000 kg, and the crew want to age only 10.0 years on a one-way journey. (a) Identify the spacetime events that are relevant for the journey from Earth to Gliese 832. (b) Identify the proper time and proper length for the journey. Explain your reasoning. (c) How fast must the spaceship travel relative to Earth so that the crew age 10.0 years? (d) What is the distance between Gliese 832 and Earth that the crew observe once they are moving? (e) How much work must be done to accelerate the spaceship to the speed found in (c)? How long would it take typical power plant to produce this much energy? Part B (Advanced) (a) One of the difficulties with space rockets is that they must carry the fuel that they burn to accelerate. Imagine that half of the mass of the spaceship in part A is a mixture of matter /antimatter fuel. Could the acceleration to the speed found in part A be achieved by "burning" the fuel? Explain your answer. The Glicks, a civilisation on planet Glerk that orbits Gliese 832, is alerted to the departure of the spaceship from Earth in Part A by a bright flash of light from its launch. Fearing an alien invasion, they send a waning message on a beam of light directly to the spaceship as soon as the launch is detected. Then, to demonstrate their power, they immediately fire a waing shot from their electron gun to destroy an asteroid 9.72 x 1011 m away from Glerk on the outskirts of their solar system. The electron gun's beam travels at u = 0.900c. (b) How long after leaving Earth does the spaceship's crew receive the warning message? (c) Fifty minutes after receiving the warning message, the crew observe a bright flash in the outer reaches of the Gliese 832 solar system. The distance between Glerk and the flash is measured by the crew to be 7.68 x101 m Is it possible that this is the destruction of the asteroid from the warning shot? Explain your answerExplanation / Answer
(a) By burning the fuel, a force is exerted on the rocket against the gravity which provides acceleration to thr rocket. If a mixture of matter is introduced with the liquid, more of the burning fuel will be required as the mass of the spacecraft has increased and thus the force needed to be exerted on the rocket is increased.
(b) The message is carried out in the packets of data which are communicated to the the spacecraft's crew. These packets take differnt paths to reach the destination and then merge at the final stage to complete the message. This techniques takes lesser time, even less than a minute to reach the destination.
(c) Yes, is it possible that the destruction of the asteroid from the warning shot because the force developed in the destruction of the asteroid enormous amount of force and thus can be considered as a warning shot.
