Question

I know this is a very simple problem, but I must humbly admit my inability to find the definition of a particular variable. In section 3.2: Compartmental Analysis, the variable "A" is used as part of the book's introduction to the logistic method of population modeling. I, so far, understand that it is related to the constants of proportionality, and that the related variable "P sub 1" (p_1), denotes the highest stable population. However, when I attempt to solve any problem involving said troublesome elements, I quickly find myself lost. If there is any help that you kind scholars can offer, it would be greatly appreciated.
