Find the mean, variance, and standard deviation of the binomial distribution with the given values of n and p. Identify any unusual values. n = 50, p = 0.4 The mean, mu, is (Round to the nearest tenth as needed.) The variance, sigma^2, is (Round to the nearest tenth as needed.) The standard deviation, sigma, is (Round to the nearest tenth as needed.) For each number listed, enter Y if the number of successes is unusual otherwise enter N. Number of Successes 0 10 20 30 40 50 Unusual? (to answer d., use either probabilities or the mean and standard deviation)

Explanation / Answer

a) Mean is n*p which in our case is 50*0.4 =20

b) Variance is n*p*(1-p)=20*0.6=12

c) standard deviation is square root of variance which is sqrt(12)=3.464

d) Values that are 20+3.463*3 away from mean ( 3 standard deviations) wil be unsusual. Thus this means >30.398 values wil be unsusual, thus 40 and 50 are unusual
