You are on the Chargemaster committee at Pike’s Peak Clinic. An annual review of services and charges is being conducted for necessary revisions. Table 3-10 shows some statistics reported on the physicians’ services at Pike’s Peak Clinic last Tuesday.

Table 3-10 Physician Pike’s Peak Clinic Physician Services Statistics for Tuesday

Pike’s Peak Clinic Physician Service Statistics for Tuesday

Physicians Service A Service B Service C

Truba 10 18 14

Wooley 14 22 9

Howe 18 5 6

Masters 12 20 7

1. It takes twice as long to perform Service C, so the physicians are proposing that Service C should count as 2 services for the purpose of calculating workload.

2. If Service C counts twice as much as Service A or Service B, which physician provided the most services on Tuesday?

Explanation / Answer

Let A, B and C denote no of services for service A, B and C respectively. So lets us find total no of services for all the 4 physicians:

Truba=A+B+2C=10+18+2*14=56

Wooley=A+B+2C=14+22+2*9=54

Howe=A+B+2C=18+5+2*6=35

Masters=A+B+2C=12+20+2*7=46

So Truba provided maximum services on tuesday.
