Case Study #5-Sheena (E-Business) Sheena had a gift for language. She spoke six languages fluentlty, including English and French. Living in Ottawa, she realized these language skills languages nue were a great asset and were in great demand. After graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration, Sheena worked at a translation service years, then eventually opened her own business translating web pages for on-line businesses that wanted to attract international customers sheena's company was now receiving many more requests than Sheena could handle on her own, so she knew it was time to hire some translators. Thus far the company consisted of Sheena and one full-time clerk In the past year, Sheena had to replace her clerk four times which was both time consuming and costly. Sheena decided it was time to stop this trend and hire a reliable person she would not need keep replacing Sheena made the decision to hire translators that spoke some of the same languages she did, but also to hire some that knew other languages. This would enable her to expand the range of jobs she could handle. Even though she was only hiring one new translator to start with, and only to work part-time at first, Sheena put a lot of work into the process. She placed several ads in the local newspapers and whittled the list of candidates down to six. These she interviewed in depth and finally settled on a single recruit as the first new hire, Ramesh. Ramesh was 36 years oid (five years older than Sheena herself) and held an MBA with a specialty in e-commerce. He was fluent in English, French and five other languages including Spanish which Sheena also spoke. Ramesh worked full-time as a business protessor at Algonquin College where he had considerable flexibility with his schedule. He wanted to work occasional days during the college term, but full-time in the summers Sheena made an appointment for Ramesh to come into the office where she gave him all the necessary information about her firm. She also scheduled an appointment with a travel agency that wanted a 'travel-to-Canada' website translated into Spanish, a language both of them spoke. At the end of the meeting. Sheena pointed out that the grey slacks and blue shirt that Ramesh was wearing would be ideal for the client meeting but that he should not wear the navy blazer (too formal). She also suggested he should wear a neck tie (something conservative, not too bright) to set a professional tone. Sheena indicated that Ramesh would deal with the client and she would just be along to observe On the day of the client visit, Sheena arrived to find that Ramesh had come early and was already working on the client's web pages. He was dressed as she had suggested but the tie he wore was far too outlandish and gaudy. Sheena decided to alert him to this error at the first opportunity As soon as the client left the room. Sheena interrupted Ramesh for a quick chat Ramesh, I'm glad to see that you were here earty, but you obviously did not take my advice about a tie. I have rarely seen anything that cheesy Q di, 2018-04-15
