I. (24) You are conducting study on household milk consumption, and observed n-33 different houscholds in Los Angeles county. Let the following variables denote your observations: yMilk consumption in quarts per week x1 = weekly income in hundreds of dollars 2family size r3 = a dummy variable that equals 1 if one of the members of the family is lactose intolerant, and 0 otherwise (a) (6) What do you predict would be the sign of each coefficieut (b:) in the regression line? Briefly explain each. (b) (6) Suppose bi = 063, Interpret this coefficient. (c) (6) Suppose b-1.46. Interpret this coefficient.Explanation / Answer
a)Milk consumption will increase if weekly income will increase...then b1 will be positive..
Similarly if family size increase then milk consumption will also increase...so b2 is also positive..
If one of the family member is lactose intolarent then b3 will be negative..
b)if b1=.063 then it means that if x2 x3 are fixed then a unit increament in x1 i.e. for unit change of weekly income when family size and another variable is same..then the amount change in milk consumption is .063.
c) b3=-1.46 means one unit change in lactose intolerance when others variable are fixed..then milk consumption will decreasw by 1.46.
d)R2 =..887 means that 88.7% of dependent variable can be explained by independent variable in the fitted model..
