Explanation / Answer
A leader is a big word which encompasses thousands of traits. To be very practical, we do not have all the traits inborn. Few are with us bonded with the nature & some of them we have to develop. We develop the leadership traits with continuous hard work & learnings. Also this is a continuous process & should always be keep moving so that our inborn traits are been polished & we keep on adding new traits to our personality.
Personality traits of leader:-
Example:- the most profound & commonly heard leader is Mark Zuckerberg; We all knew the word FACEBOOK today, which has helped us to keep connected to our friends/ families/ collegaues/ schoolmates/ college mates across the borders. It is due to his passion, enthusiasm & hard work, FACEBOOK came into existence. He has always showcased positive attitude. Currently his work has some accusations of pulling the personal details of the users. When this news came, he took ownership & accountability of the charges & has boldly working towards it. He has shown a great amount of commitment of standing by hard times of facebook. I suppose he has shown his leadership skills in most confident manner by accepting the flaws & apologizing for the same.
Attitude:- A positive attitude towards work & life; Bold & confident attitude in order to take stand for their team & be accountable for all the actions.
Beliefs:- Trust & honesty are the key beliefs. Leaders should be vigilant about the work & targets but alongside, they should keep trust & honesty intact amongst the team members.
Values:- Integrity, commitment, respect & emotional stability are the key values which a leader must focus upon. These are beyond targets & goals, & speak a lot about a person more.
Behavioral traits:- Passionate, enthusiastic & yet polite, would encourage the members of team to act like their leaders. Knowledge-full yet calmed.
Current leadership qualities that I currently possess are:- Passionate & enthusiastic towards my work. Commitment towards the deadlines to be met. Honesty towards the team & team members. I am working in late twenties, obviously I have all the energy to be passionate & enthusiastic enough to meet/ overachieve the targets. Prior committing to any project’s deadline, leader should always check if that is even feasible? Putting up your realities is always better than false expectation setting / false commitments.
Weakness, Barriers & limitations:- Handling an extremely arrogant & argumentative member could be my weakness. Although this can be worked upon by taking multiple one-on-one sessions with the member. Communicating what is the best way of passing the information. A very important factor which is usually left in consideration is priority. Priority of tasks should be aligned basis their urgency & then should be worked accordingly. This could be one of the major weakness. Limitations & barriers that would come across in front of any leader are set of approvals from higher management for additional resource, negotiating the deadlines as calculated, performance yielding from under performers, technological barriers in the project cycle that could delay the deadline.
So, FAILURE…as we all know it’s very difficult to say that this can be worked upon & we can handle this, but trust me…I have faced a lot many & it’s very difficult. The first most important thing is to accept the failure, once accepted you can work towards making yourself realize what were the shortcomings & where this needs to be worked upon. Post acceptance, pull yourself up & go through the entire process cycle, check what went wrong? What were the factors that acting as enzymes? What can be done to eliminate all these factors. Checking all details & shortcomings, would gather data & information. Post all the preparation, I would again share this information with higher management & then with team to make it work. We all learn from our failures.
