Question

Netiquette refers to the correct or acceptable way of communicating on the internet. Here is an example for you to evaluate this week in our discussion: Your co-worker, Kevin, sent an email telling your supervisor that you were not doing your part on a project. He also sent you an email filled with insults and profanity about your work ethic and performance. How do you respond to Kevin in a professional way? Do you: Share your concerns with Kevin in front of everyone in the break room Avoid speaking to him all together Ask to meet with him privately and explain how it makes you feel Provide an explanation of your choice.

Explanation / Answer

Netiquette, as mentioned above is the etiquettes that one should follow while communicating on internet. Communication should always follow certain ethics & norms, which basically shows the person you are as general.

In this scenario, Kevin has already emailed about my project works & also has insulted with wordings on email & have written about the ethics & performance.

I would set-up a meeting with Kevin, as soon as possible. In the one-on-one session, I would clearly specify my agenda & purpose. I would be ready with the data & other appreciation emails which I might have received during course of last quarter. I would also collect if any motivational email , I might have rec in due course of time. I would collect all the positives & then prepare a data to showcase the amount & kind of work which I have performed in past quarter.

During the session, I would initially ask Kevin, what are the grounds basis which I have been insulted & is questioned about my performance. Post listening to his thoughts, I would display my work & data along with the appreciation emails. I would check if my KRA’s (key responisibilities areas) are been met or not? I would also ask for more information/ insight towards my KRA’s. Post this conversation, I would write an email back to Kevin, stating the discussion & attaching all the proofs.

Even after this if this does not gets settled, I would escalate the matter to higher management, sighting all the scenarios & conversation that have happened.
