Question
Pickles are processed by soaking them in a chemical solution for a period of time. A company has used a standard chemical solution, label it S1; however, the solution is not biodegradable and its disposal is expensive. The company wished to find an alterna- tive solution that could be used to process the pickles which is biodegradable. Three biodegradable solutions, label them S2, S3, and S4, were selected. A total of 40 packages of pickles of the same size were available for the study. Each of the four chemical solu- tions were assigned randomly to 10 pickle packages. During the soaking process, some pickles tend to bloat and must be discarded. One goal of the experiment was to compare the average number of bloated pickles obtained with the four solutions. The data listed in the table below consists of the number of bloated pickles in each pickle package.Explanation / Answer
There are more than 2 treatments for comparison , so we hav to use ANOVA for comparision .
We have to test that
Ho : S1 = S2= S3= S4
H1 : At last one tratment is different .
W can use EXCEL function for ANOVA .
Plug your givn data in Excel .
Click on DATA --- > Click on Data Analysis option
Scroll down and select option as ANOVA :Single Factor
Input Range : Select all data values
Plug alpha : 0.05
In output range select any empty cell where you have to plug your output .
Then click on OK .
It gives you output as :
We got p value = 2.24E-11 ~ 0.000
So p- value < significance level , so we rejct the null hypothsis
So there is diffrence in at least one treatment .
