Question

Part One. Classic Approach For e ach hypothesis test problem in this part, please (a) state clearly the null hypothesis and alternativ hypothesis (choose either directional or non-directional HA based on the question being compute observed test statistic (show your work); (c) find and present the critical statistic value at desired level of significance; (d) determine whether the null hypothesis should be rejected, and whether the alternative hypothesis should be accepted, and explain why; and finally, (e) answer the research question explicitly asked); (b)

Explanation / Answer

Solution:

H0: Household in the neighborhood have significant different mean consumption level from the average city household.

H1: household in the neighborhood have not significant different level from the average city household.

Population mean= 6800

Sample mean=8000

Variance=1440000

Sd for population=1200

Sd for sample=1200/sqrt(40)=1200/6.3

Sd for sample=190.47

Tstat=8000-6800 /190.47=1200/190.47 =6.3

Tcritical value from t table at df=39 and alpha value 0.05

Tcrit=1.6848

Now we can see that Tcrit value is less than t stat value so we will reject our null hypothesis.

So we can say that household in the neighborhood have nort significantly different mean consumption level.
