1. Researchers were interested in comparing the long-term psychological effects of being on a high-carbohydrate, low-fat (LF), diet versus a high-fat, low-carbohydrate (LC) diet. A total of 106 overweight and obese participants were randomly assigned to one of these two energy-restricted diets. At 52 weeks, 32 LC dieters and 33 LF dieters remained. Mood was assessed by using a total mood disturbance score (TMDS), where a lower score is associated with a less negative mood. (b) HEre as we can see that there are 106 particpants who have decided to take part in the study. Out of these 106, only 65 remains in the end. There is significant reduction in the number of participants . So, this droupout affects the results signifcicantly. There may be selection and confirmation bias present in the study which have magnified the difference between two sample means. Now, as we see in this study one group is on high fat diet, there may be chance that people dropeed out willingly to not take high fat diet for long period. Only people having negative biases would have stayed in experiment. Similarly, thode getting low fat diet, they have incentive to remain in study as they are becoming less negative in their mood. So, including all those missing persons in the sample data results are necessary.
