Question

In Chs.9-10 we discuss many example of companies that have faulty products/services' due to a quality issue(s). Quality issues lead to at minimum two things: (1) higher costs and therefore lower profitability; and (2) often injuries (including death) to consumers (and sometimes employees). You are to write a professional 4-5+ page paper (APA-format) in which you will select a company that has had a major quality issue (nothing earlier than 2007 without pre-approval from professor) and discuss the impact on the firm's revenues, market share, costs (warranty, replacement, repair, etc.), etc. What actions (or inactions) led to the quality issue? Could it have been prevented? How? What can be learned from your an ng forW raduation to your firm(s)? At minimum your paper should include the sections referenced below. Divide and label your paper into clearly labeled sections as per below for ease of readability/understanding: 1. Executive Summary (1-2 paragraphs highlighting the KEY points) 2. Firm Overview (introduce the firm, product/service, industry) . Actions/Inactions (What was the quality issue and how did it happen?) 4. Impacts to Consumer and/or Employees (injuries, deaths, etc.) 5. Financial Implications to firm (higher costs, lost revenue, loss of market share, etc.) 6. Lessons Learned (What can you apply from this case study to your future career?) 7. Conclusions (Has the firm recovered from the issue? Were there management changes? Etc.) Deliverable: . 4-5+ page paper on the topic of Product (or Service) Quality e Max 12-pt font, double-spaced lines, max 1 margins * At the top of your paper: o Student full name, MGT370 Quality Research Paper (Easterling), Spring 2018 (all one line) o Do NOT take up 3" of writing space by doing this vertically APA format o Site sources throughout your paper o Include a basic Bibliography at the end, which is not counted as part of 4-5+ pages Authors), date, article name, journal . 30 points o Appropriate grammar, sentence structure, effective paragraphing, clarity of thought, spelling, etc. o Focus on the overall qualitylquantity/professionalism of your submission. o The most important part of any 'real-world' assignment is an Executive Summarywhere you streamline the overall conclusion into a concise paragraph(s), often supplemented by bullet points. o Divide your paper into clearly labeled sections (see above) o o Cross-check your findings (i.e. one journal article is NOT sufficient): triangulate across 3-4 articles. Do NOT reference Wiki o Integrating course concepts (specifically Ch.9-10) into your paper. Adding pictures to your research paper is very effective and highly encouraged. You can reference pictures in a different section (i.e. a Supplemental Appendix') or you can include them throughout your paper itself (i.e. in the body, of the paper). Again, pictures are not "required, but are very helpful in providing "context” to your essay. Obviously if you take time to insert pictures, consider printing your document in 'color for the full effect. And of course I'm looking for a certain quantity & quality of writing (i.e. lots of pictures and minimal writing will be frowned upon!) don't do the "bare minimum. do a great Job, “Don't be average be exceptional"

Explanation / Answer

Talking about the quaity issue, which is the major part of any of the company needs to take care of, now thinking about the quality issue, the major thing the company needs to think about is, the quality should be very much upto the mark as well as the product should not cause damages to the person who are using this product,

Taking the Case of Maggi the international product which was the major issue faced by the company, the quality of the product was such that it was impacted into the market, due to which many of the customers faced food poisoning issue and due to which some people also died. The major thing the product was in the manner that the consumption level of the product generated a bad impact in the environment due to which the company had stopped the product and government had to banned the product in respective country.

Talking about Maggi, a product of the company called Nestle, a Swiss International company which is dealing into food prducts might be food, choclates, cream, milk, butter, ghee etc. The company was incepted in 1866 with a vast range of products launched into the market and majorly covering all the countries respectively for delivering of the products, the company had made most of the corporate acquisitions to make the product line more and more expanding the brand.

The issue which turned up in Maggi was caught by one of the food inspector of India that the products contained MSG ( Monosodkum Glutamate) which is not the health product to consume by the human body, the company was using this product and on the packaging of the product there was the disclaimer that it is MSG free, however, the food inspector, picked up one product for some random audit and forwarded it to the laboratory, once the product was forwarded it took one year to confirm from the laboratory that it contained MSG, once the inspector got the update, he forwarded one notice to the company to provide and update briefs about MSG in the product, the company updated them with the updates, however, were very much slow in updating till that time the case was turned up to the media in which the company was not able to justify the things and the CEO of the company was little late to explain, till that moment of time government had released the notice to take back all the products which were defective. CEO with no choice had to call back the goods and they were recalled back which created a major loss for the company which they had to bear, and the company suffered from major losses in the company's revenue and turn over.

The impact on the consumer was very healthy, as there were many customers who were attached to the product, as the consumption of the product in the market was very high, as this product was used as snacks at certain places, and it was a midnight food for the students hence this product was considered as the fast moving product into the market, which had generated a biggest awareness into the market for getting such a product inside which can impact the health of the consumer, on the other hand the employess working in the company for respective business unit were into the radar of understanding what were the conclusions taken for their neglegence into holding the overall product, the manufacturing of the product was stopped the life cycle of the product was stopped which generated the major and the worst awareness into the market.

The legal and the financial impact on the company was very high, the legal impact was company got the notice from the respective government and the country to stop the selling of the product as well as to recall all the products from the retail stores as this product was not upto the mark and faulty hence this product needs to be stopped selling into the market, due to this the impact on the financials of Nestle was more as 3 lakh tonnes Maggi products were recalled hence this impact was major on the front of Nestle for getting the products impact in the business

The major thing which we can conclude and learn from the same is there should be many parameters of quality check and always need to take care of the parameters of rules and jurisdiction which can help the business to sustain more, as well as be proactive on answering the questions rather than active on it and awaiting for the team to revert which can help to distract and generate more losses for the company

The conclusion which we turned up to is quality parameters of the product and overall quality of the brand is to be maintained and get it done on time to avoid on impact on brand image of the company as well as every communication going on should be upto the mark
