Review of the nature argument
It has been known since long time that physical characteristics are biologically determined by genetic inheritance (McLeod, 2015). Such as, skin color, eyes and hair color and certain diseases as well (such as Huntingdon’s chorea) all these features are considered natural outcomes of the genes factors (McLeod, 2015).Other physical characteristics are related to our biological parents (McLeod, 2015).
Height, weight and hair loss in men and some innless such as diabetes, and heart problems can be resulted from biological factors, moreover, breast cancer in women most of diseases have a positive relation with genes factors .are positively correlated between genetically related individuals. All these factors have led to ask either these psychological characteristics which include personality development, human behaviuor, and mental abilities are also formulated before even we born (McLeod, 2015).
Characteristics and differences that cannot be observed at birth, and come out later on life are considered as the product of maturation I really liked his expression when he assembles our behavior by saying That is to say, we all have an inner “biological clock” which switches on (or off) types of behavior in a pre-programmed way(McLeod, 2015).
People who are adopt an extreme heredity position are known as nativists, as their perception of the human behaviors are the product of unique genetic code, generally the earlier a individual ability appears it will be more affected by the genetic factors(McLeod, 2015).
Here we have the classic example which favors the concept of the physical development which includes the body changes that are occurred during the adolescence at puberty, on the other hand nativists argue that maturity controls the emergence of attachment in infancy, language acquisition, and cognitive development as whole((McLeod, 2015).
As we can see here from that point of view, psychological characteristics and behavioral differences that emerge from childhood are the outcomes of the learning during infancy stage. Moreover, It is how you brought up which controls the psychologically aspects of the child development and the maturation stage applies only to the biological (McLeod, 2015).
I really enjoyed the example give about an infant from an attachment as it is responds to the love and the attention it has received ,from parents .and language comes from imitating the speech of others , as I personally imitate mu mum in her speech (McLeod, 2015).
Examples of extreme nature positions in psychology such as Bowlby’s (1969) theory of attachment as it views the relationship between mother and her child as being an integral(innate ) process that confirms survival, Chomsky (1965) proposed that language is acquired through the use of an innate language acquisition device. Another example of nature is Freud’s theory of aggression as being as an innate drive (called Thanatos) (McLeod, 2015).
Thus, it can be concluded that, nature can use the genetic coding to help in physical development such as the normal physical growth of an individual, as well as an impact on some or most of the individual personal traits either positive r negative, human behaviour and personality development (Mojica, 2017). So the perception of nature is simply refers to biologically inherited in both trends and talents that people have and may be observed later at the maturity or when they grow up (Mojica, 2017).
Explanation / Answer
The nature versus nurture debate related to human growth and development has been going on for ages. Though,no clear cut winner is there as both play vital roles. But in this article the influence of nature or genetic factors is stressed more in personality development, traits, physical features, diseases, attachment styles etc. Sometimes even behavioural patterns are seen to be having genetic influences in the form of inherited traits in an individual.Nature is responsible for the growth of a person from the fetus level until development into a normal adult. The genetic makeup of a human being is responsible for their sex, skin color, color of their eyes and hair as well as distinguishing features which are inherited. It can be explained that nature uses the genetic coding to help in physical development and does impart some positive or negative traits to an individual however nurture helps in improving these positive traits and diminishing the negative traits in a child. Nativists obviously believe in the strong effects of genetic factors in early childhood years, and consider it to be important in the healthy and normal development of the child. They do not consider the importance of the environmental factors in human development and maturation. They do believe that an infant is born with certain genes which do influence his personality and maturation levels later in life. All children have a set of universal human genes that permit them to develop as reasonably capable members of the human species. Many physical features emerge gradually through the process of maturation, the genetically guided changes that occur over the course of development. Some abilities are strongly influenced by genetically controlled systems in the brain. For example, the innate language acquisition device helps to distinguish between certain speech sounds which develops without any training.
