Explanation / Answer

Walls in olden days were built to protect the inmates from foreign invasions but today almost all the houses have walls. Although walls were told to protect the inmates from attacks and invasion, they normally don’t serve the purpose. Two such wall structures, one ancient and the other modern are The Great Wall of China and Berlin Wall respectively.

The building of the Great Wall of China was started by Qin dynasty in 260 BC and ended in 1500 AD. The length of the wall is nearly 20, 000 miles and it’s the oldest, longest and existing wall in the world. Nearly, 5, 00, 000 slaves were used to build the wall. The purpose of the wall was to prevent invaders from entering China, especially, the Mongols. Berlin wall was constructed in 1961 by East Berliners from escaping to West Berlin. The length of the wall is 103 miles long. The wall was eventually demolished in 1989. Both the walls have watchtowers and guards.
