Differentiate between sadness and depression - Sadness is normal emotion, whereas depression is abnormal state. Depression affects our thinking, behaviour. Sadness is usually triggered by hurtful, sad, event, this would also mean that when that event passes by we come back to normal state of life. Depressiondoes not require triggering of event, it occurs in absence of such situations. Depression affects physical health of the person significantly where as sadness does not There is significant change in weight, concentration etc. Depression saps our energy, ability to enjoy events.
Mania vs Hypomania - Mania is set of mood symptoms that includes irritability lasting atleast a week and it includes bipolar disorder.Hypomania is less severe version of mania. Hypomania slightly interefers with person's day to day functioning. Suicide rate for mania is higher than hypomania. Hypomania is can be developed into mania if not treated properly.
