Thanks Addiction Addiction comes in many different forms. When we think of addiction, we typically think of addiction to drugs and chemicals. However, people can also be addicted to behaviors or experiences. . List 5-10 behavioral or experiential addictions and discuss if any of these addictions could be potentially more damaging to a person's life than drugs. . Now based on your knowledge of addiction and the brain, discuss how a behavior or experience that does not involve the intake of a chemical that directly alters the brain becomes an addiction. . What steps does a person need to take to break one of these addictions

Explanation / Answer

Addiction is a condition of a person where he start depending on things for eg.alcohol,smoking etc.or he depend on an activity which give him pleasure for ex-sex,shopping etc.These activity becomes addicition when a person cannot control his behaviour and tends to the activity which is pleasurable and the same activity start interfering in the normal routine of the person and so on.People generally feel the urge the repeate those actions which are pleasurable to him.

There are lots of behavioural addictions namely:-gambling,shopping,sex,surfing.People generally repeat these activities or get addicted to them because they were as stress buster to them.In todays scenerio where everybody is struggling with one or another stress these activities can help them to escape.But in the process of escaping person generally dont realise when these activities start affecting there normal schedule.


Gambling is one such addiction which can damage a person's life more potebtially than the drug or any other thing.It can cause personal and financial loss to person.There are many reasons why a personal for a trap like gambling.Some of them are:-

1.For a new experience-Certain people try gambling to gain a new experience and if they attain success in their first attempt they start gambling more often and slowly get addicted to it.


2.When someone is in good mood-Person who is good mood tends to take more risk than the one in the bad mood.The reason for good mood work as an encouragement for the person to take risks.


3.Gambler's fallacy-Person tends to feel that if a pattern if been follow for several period of time it will not repeat again and hence falls for the trap.


4.Increased commitment lead to more hope-When a person is committed to do a certain work he is more hopeful of winning.If u will ask a player who has bet on racer,he will be more sure that the one he has bet on will win after placing the bet than thinking about whom he should bet on.


5.Bandwagon effect-The person tends to follow the crowd so that they feel the part of the group and not to be left out even if that means their own personal loss.


6.Gambling process and belifes-gamblers tends to believe that they can devise a pattern that can help them to win continiously.although,by definition gambling means the occurence of random events.a lot of people set a certain work frame that they perform before playing so that they always win and the chances of their losing are low.

The pleasure and the satisfaction one gets after doing one or the other thing is what alter the functioning of their brains.They have trained their brain in a such a way that after every task or during every task there brain keeps telling them to start doing that activity.One of the reason can be stress also .People wants to combat to stress so badly that they search their ways out to escape their problems and whenver they face the same situation of stress there mind is trained in such a way that it automatically start diverting the person to the pleasuerable things.


Meditation is one such way to combat any stress and addiction.It is really important to calm the mind down.Meditation not only helps to combat the stress but it also help people to look out for solutions of their problems rather than escaping them.


Involving oneself into physical activity keeps the brain diverted and also helps the person to remain fit and work more productively.filling in the time gaps is really important.taking up of a hobby can be a good idea


It is really important for the person who is addicted to firmly believ in himself and determine enough to quit the addiction.making out a plan on how to quit addiction is another step.one can take the help of friends and family and if this is not enough one can always go for the professional help.being happy is another aspect,stop criticing your failure and start celebrating your accomplishment.
