Research scholarly articles regarding bottom-up and top-down information processing and explain what research has been done in this area. Describe some examples of the two types
Explanation / Answer
Optical illusions have many categorization and one such categorization, which psychology studies is that of cognitive illusions which are perceptual illusions and are caused by unconscious inferences.
These inferences are part of a complex system which is responsible and almost rudimentary for the formulation of the various visual impressions.
Optical illusions can be physiological in nature and can be owing to the nature of a certain factor in the world, such as the nature and quality of water make a stick immersed within it seen bent from the vertex and such, but cognitive or perceptual illusions usually have a more biased approach and are conceptualized due to one's framework and assumptions of the world and or cultural affect.
In succinct terms, bottoms up processing does not take the aid of cognitive abilities to percieve, but Vitalizes the sensory information itself, that is viewing it as it is.
Whereas, top down processing takes the help and aid of cognitive processing abilities and from the reservoir of what we have learnt over time, it perceives, that is, it perceives within context than perceiving it as it is through sensory senses.
