Question

Sister Mary Clarence went in for her yearly eye examination. Her intraocular pressure was 23mmHg. (Normal=12-22) You are very concerned for sister Mary Clarence and are thinking about prescribing eyedrops (a beta-blocker, an alpha agonist, or a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor).

Part 1: Based on the information above, what disease or condition are you worried about? Why?
Part 2: If the pressure does not decrease, what is one consequence for this condition?
Part 3: Explain how the eyedrops would treat the condition.

Explanation / Answer

Well sister mary Clarence might be suffering from glaucoma. Because her intraocular pressure had increased. and this is the main factor of glaucoma caused by the fluid retension in the eyes.

Well eyedrops like beta blocker and alpha antagonist or carbonic anhydrase inhibitor are prescribed becaue e eyedrops help to decrease the bff eased ntraocukar presdure by improving the drainage of the fluids from the eye or by decreasing the amount of fluid produced by the eye.

If pressure is not decreased then it will result in the severe damage to the optic nerve and thereby leading to complete loss of vision.
