Question

Part c TC is a sequence of nucleotides found on the template strand of a gene Which of the following combinations represents the amino acid that is being coded for on this portion of the gene and the anticodon of the tRNA molecule that carries that amino acid? (Note refer to the genetic code table to help you with this quastion ) tRNA molecule with a GUC anticodon carrying the amino acid glutamine (Gln) RNA molecule with a GUC anticodon carrying the amino acid valine(Val) tRNA molecule with a CAG anticodon carrying the amino acid valine (Val) RNA molecule with a CAG anticodon carrying the amino acid glutamine (Gin) Submit My Answers Give Uo

Explanation / Answer

Option 1 is the correct answer.

Please follow the below:

1. Template strand of a gene has triplet code GTC. (Template strand of a gene i.e. DNA is one that gets transcribed to coding mRNA)

2. This gets transcribed to mRNA triplet complimentary to GTC as C-A-G. hence, Codon on transcribed mRNA becomes CAG that corresponds to amino acid Gln (Please refer Genetic code table provided and also note that genetic code table represents Codons on mRNA corresponding to respective amino acids and NOT the anticodons on tRNA)

3. If CAG is a codon, the anticodon on tRNA will be exactly complimentary to this, i.e. GUC.

Thus, tRNA molecule with GUC anticodon carrying amino acid Gln, is the correct answer. Option 1.
