Ans: It will decrease the concentration gradient causing more K ion to flow out of the cell during repolarization.
Repolarization is the process by which the membrane after depolarization is polarizes again with the positive charges on the outer and negative charges on the inner surface. Increased extracellular k+ ion will decrease the electrochemical gradient for the potassium to efflux out of the cell. As the less k+ ion going out of the cell the intracellular k+ ion level will increase. Therefore, having more cations in the cytoplasm will increase the net charge in the cell compaired to the outside of the cell and thus increasing the resting membrane potential and depolarising the cell.
The repolarization phase returns the membrane potential back to the resting membrane potential. The efflux of k+ ion causes thereduced phase of an action potential. Repolarization results in the movement of positively charged K+ ions out of the cell. The repolarization results in hyperpolarization attaining a membrane potential which is more negative than the resting potential.
