Question

Assignment 2.1 - Applying Developmental Theory to Your Life: Bronfenbrenner's Bioecological Approach

Writing and citations should be in APA format. For example, (Feldman, 2011).

Note: For all written assignments, only the material assigned in the course should be cited.

A HINT REGARDING WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS (the following will perhaps save you from having a written assignment returned to you for further work): You will note that most of the written assignments in this course ask you to reflect on your own developmental experience and write an autobiographical analysis of that period in your life. It is not necessary to do additional research for these assignments, but it is assumed that you will include in your analysis how your experience compares and contrasts with the theoretical propositions and research that you have been reading about in the text or listening to on the Watson CDs. Without this connection to what you have been learning, your essay becomes just a story and does not reflect what you have been learning and Integrating the Developmental Perspectives and Theories.

First:

Think of a particular time in your childhood, e.g., age 4, age 5, age 10, age 11.

Use Urie Bronfenbrenner's bioecological approach to development (Chapter 1 in the Feldman text), to place yourself in a fairly complete developmental context. Write completely about the following five systems (label which level you are talking about when writing your essay):

Microsystem: Describe:

Your family at that time

Your school and teacher at that time

Your peer group at that time

Your surrounding community at that time

Mesosystem: Describe:

How your parents interacted with your peers at that time

How your parents interacted with your school and teacher at that time

Whether your parents helped with schoolwork at that time

How your community supported your school or activities (e.g., sports)

Exosystem: Describe:

Your parents' jobs

Vacations you took

Whether there was a divorce in your family

Macrosystem: Describe:

Your ethnic heritage

Your religious affiliations

Your social class (e.g., poor, working-class, middle-class, wealthy)

What was going on in the world at that time (e.g., Vietnam war, who was president of the United States, destruction of the Berlin Wall, etc.)

Chronosystem: Describe:

How a single historical event (such as the terrorist attacks of 2001) affected your development at that time (or if there was more than one single historical event write about each one),

and/or How gradual historical changes going on at that time affected your development (e.g., the change in the number of women who worked outside the home; a change in the types of jobs available; a change from having no television to having television).

Second:

Using another developmental theory besides Bronfenbrenner's, explain how the theory applies to you at that time in your childhood.

Microsystem: Describe:

Your family at that time

Your school and teacher at that time

Your peer group at that time

Your surrounding community at that time

Explanation / Answer

Microsystem as discussed by Bronfenbrenner--It is the first stage of development of child where the child adapts itself to the prevalent environment where the upbringing takes place along with development and learning of child in early stages with the formation of perceptions in the memory of child with visualizations. The child learns to interact with the parents and learns various important aspects of development with care and pamper. The child takes education in the pre-nursery school with the development of memory skills, perception, recognition, grasp and care from parents and teachers in a playfull environment. The environment describes the attributes of child development with emphasis of providing a clean and fruitful environment for the development of child.

Mesosystem--It involves the interaction of the parents with teachers along with the discussion of career prospects of child and ultimately job priorities for the child according to the interest of child in academics and extra-curricular studies.Further emphasis is on the recognition of weaknesses of child in various areas which needs to be strengthened so that the child can perform better in school in academics and other activities.

Macrosystem--This involves the incorporation of cultural values, moral values and educational values in children by parents so that they can live comfortably in society with happiness and prosperity. It involves the basis of cultural values of upbringing of child along with development of various skills like singing and music, painting, fine arts and other social values with rich tradition of language and linguistics.Further gap analysis is discussed in various families who bear tow or more children with concentration on the development of anxiety, depression and stress after a comparison of the job prospects and educational status of two children without understanding the potential and extent of mental development of child based on the prevalent scenarios in the environment and the money available for investment in the career of child.

This macrosystem involves two regions in ecology along with their culture during that time namely--Russia and USA. The role of the environment along with the hostile insurgent situation is discussed with the role of USA.

Further president Ronald reagen asked germany to break down the Berlin wall,so that peace ,prosperity and harmony can prevail between east germany and west germany which in turn resulted in collaboration for signing of missile cooperation treaty with USA.

Chronosystem--It involves the occurence of various events like death of parents, old age of parents with senility, organization of various rituals and sacrifices for the benefit and welfare of family in the time scale.Recently the constitutional authorities have discussed the importance of importance of providing equal opportunities to women in society in every sector of job along with upbringing of child with imparting education to child.

Exosystem--It involves the work environment of parents, their job vacations and enjoyment and orientation of child on the path of parents for career development. It also involves the development of child in social atmosphere, social enviroment and society with interaction and partnership with friends and colleagues.

The bronfenbrenner system can be used for the analysis of teaching prospects of teachers in various fields of science and maths with development and advancement of technology like using powerpoint presentations, use of models with 3-D diagrams, use of notations and nomenclature for study of scientific terms for better understanding of subject by students in classes with use of software and simulation dynamics with internet computer network interlinking of various servers for analysis of problems scientifically with coordinate system and equations analysis and graphical depiction of the numerical equations.

The other attachment theory involves the child feeding and development theory of John Bowlby and Jeff Einworth. This theory discusses the development of characters in child starting from new born child,to the next stage of child growth with the analysis of learning and memory perception in child, with learning of grasping in next stage, the analysis of visualization and speaking languages and linguistics in next stage and finally the stage of educational and career orientation in child.
