Explanation / Answer

3. What individual factors might increase resistance against authority?

In the replica, 9/12 people went on to the lethal 450, but 3 denied. For the people who went on, they gave simple reasons as to the man behind them prompted him to go on and that if there was any harm, they could argue that it was a scientific experiment. Also, that it was claimed that there would not be any side effects to the patient. For the person who denied, he replied in saying that for him the idea was scary.

4. Although Milgram's study highlights the negative outcomes of obedience, what are common positive outcomes?

Milgram's study has highlighted a rather negative aspect of obedience, which most of us were not aware about. Some positive aspects of obedience are:

- proper functioning of the society

- so that laws are implemented and followed such that crimes may not be committed

- to impart some morality in the society.

5. The Milgram study has been criticized because of the stress placed on the participants. Do you think this experiment was ethical? Does the knowledge gained by these types of social experiments outweigh the temporary negative effects on participants?

Milgram's experiment was not ethical as the subjects were not fully informed of the experiment. One major law that wasn't complied to is the informed consent law. If the subjects were fully aware and then the experiment yielded the same results, it could have been more considerable. Possibly, the knowledge gained by these types of social experiments outweigh the temporary negative effects on participants. Since, in a society, even to abide, people should be fully aware of the situation and the consequences, and then make a decision. Maybe, in real senses the results would be something else.
