Explanation / Answer

Each individual’s socio-cultural milieu casts a lasting impact on his/her growth and development. According to Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems theory, the five environmental systems interact with an individual and shape his/her personality. The systems are-

This theory succintly points out the role of culture in one's development. The theory enumerates the roles, norms and rules that shape one's development. This theroy points out that not only the biology but also the ecology of an individual, effecte the development of an individual.

I would like to share my experience about interactions with people form different cultural backgrounds.

My first interaction and realization about the role of culture was when I started going to school. There I realized that my fellow students belong to different cultures, as a result their world-views are different from that of mine. As macro-systems interact with the individual only through the micro-systems, my parents helped me deal with the anxieties of interacting with people of different backgrounds I never felt that they are different from me. Luckily, for me, no negative memory is associated with such interactions. Because, my micro-systems (parents and teachers) always was helpful in making me understand that there may be people form different backgrounds, I never faced any difficulty in accepting such individuals. If I ever meet people, with a different langauge, I try an understand and communicate either in sign language or in a manner which is easily understood by them.

Because I was lucky enough that there were no conflicts in the information that I recieved through the various ecological systems, I am open and welcoming of the people around me.
