1. IN THE STUDY, WHAT ARE UNCONDITIONED STIMULUS (US), CONDITIONED STIMULUS ( CS), AND CONDITIONED RESPONSE ( CR)?
Unconditioned stimulus: exposure to white rat, monkey, rabbit masks and no fear in watching these masks, but fear on a sound of a hammer striking a steel bar and would burst into tears.
Conditioned stimulus: picture of the rat and steel bar that would now make him afraid of the rat.
Conditioned response: not only is he afraid of the rat, he tried to crawl away from the rat. Also, he is now afraid of anything that has such rat like characteristics.
2. EXPLAIN THE CONCEPT OF GENERALIZATION IN REGARDS TO WATSON AND RAYNER'S ABILITY TO CONDITION ALBERT TO REACT TO DIFFERENT STIMULI SUCH AS MASKS, OTHER ANIMALS, AND A FUR COAT?
Generalisation was the stage where little Albert started to get afraid of everything that had rat like characteristics, for example, fur coat, cotton wool, a Father Christmas mask and also the family dog.
3.. USING EXAMPLE FROM THE STUDY, EXPLAIN THE CONCEPT OF EXTINCTION,
Extinction is a dying out response. Little Albert had been watched for a period of few weeks and months, and it was observed that 10 days after the conditioning was done, little Albert exhibited much less fear of rat. This process where a dying out has occurred for a learned response, is known as extinction.
