Question
Mika Brzezinski Responds to President Trump's Tweet 06/30/2017 TempPresident Trump had contained some of his comments on Twitter since taking office—until now. He tweeted about Mika Brzezinski, co-host of Morning Joe, which continues the feud from last summer. Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough (engaged to be married) aren't keeping quiet about the situation. In a long piece in Vanity Fair, Brzezinski tells more gory details about meetings and her neck surgery. They wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post, and Temp Business Insider describes the hosts refutation of Trump's claims. The whole story sounds a bit high school: were they friends, and now they're not anymore? Business Insider also reported Brzezinski's response about the tweet: Brzezinski said she was "fine" after the attack, adding that her family "brought me up really tough." "This is absolutely nothing for me personally," she said. "But I’m very concerned about what this once again reveals about the president of the United States. ... It does worry me about the country." "We’re okay," Scarborough said. "The country is not."
Discussion:
- The op-ed piece is titled, "Donald Trump is not well." Do you agree? Too harsh, just right, or something else?
- How do you assess Brzezinski's reaction? Should she and Scarborough let it go? What are their motivations?
Explanation / Answer
1. This complete instance is very shameful with respect to the President of America and Brezezinski both. They both could behave in a more professional manner. The op-ed titled "Donald Trump is not well" is way too harsh because Donald trump is president of world's largest economy and reaction from him and that too at such a small level doesnt complement well with his post. Best example in contrast is his predecessor "Barack Obama". Who is known for his contentment and calmness. He connected really well not just with his fellow countrymen but with mediapersons also. He had a great repo amongst all of them. The current president could very well learn from him.
Also, on Brzezinski's part, being a professional in the journalism, scathing attacks like this and that too on a person who is president of the country doesnt go well. Whatever the matter is, defaming him like this would only kill the confidence of the fellow countrymen in there own president. The article from its title "Donald Trump is not well" itself is portraying president is sick. This seems as attack on his mental status, whch is not good for the country.
2. Brzezinski's reaction is a bit hard and very upfront and harsh as well. They definitely should have let it go. This is very evident from the fact when they said that "Its okay with us but its not okay with our country". This definitely shows that they have some hidden motivation behind the Oped. That could be the media house's hidden agenda of making most out of this issue to garner readership and eyeballs.
