As kindergarten curricula become increasingly academic, school systems depend on screening measures to help identify children who might benefit from an additional year of preschool before enteting kindergarten. These tests assume that children may not be developmentallly ready for the kindetgarten experience as a result of maturation. This kind of assessment if conducted nicely is very useful as it helps a child to be emotionally and socially ready for kindergarten. Thus these tests are very reliable as demonstrated by the recent work of (Marcotte, 2016) on Picture Naming Fluency (PNF) and "Reverse Definition Fluency" (RDF) preschool screening tests.
