Model Of Correction Policy In the title Model Of Correction Policy we will see the basic models of correction policy of chapter 3where the wruter have have explained the changes or modification in the system of correction which actually begins with the phase of Reformatory stage of crime (1870-1890) till the p[hase of Crime control(1970-2000). These models are importance because of the followings: 1)Retribution : It is mainly done to reduce the crime from society where the guilty will be punished and innocentsare saved and protected. 2)Deterrence:It is a punishment as a threat so that he does not commit same kinds of crime in future. 3)Incapacitation:the main aim is to prevent crime so here offenders are prevented for committing future crime 4)rehabilitation:its main aim is to give proper treatment and return him ina criminal free life. Five Basic Model Of Correction Policy Reformatory Movement This phase starts from 1870-1890. It is a influetial model where women, kidsand other under priviledge individuals where in the prison. But it was criticised as it was not a well planned system of prisonmentand it was full of corruption and brutality. Progressive Movement This period starts from 1890 till 1960, where its main agenda social and political reform from which curbing the political corruption. So here we find upper class reformers who socaially concious and politically active. So the trend was industrialisation,urbanisation and technological advancement . So to improve social economic condition it breeded the crime. Medical Movement It starts from the period of 1830 till 1960. It actually led emphasis on correction of criminal behaviour which is due to psychological, biological deficiencies and so it requires medical treatment. So here criminals were treated psychologicallyand medical strategies were employed to cure them. Community Movement This period statrs from1960 to 1970. Its main focus is reintegration to community So the main focus to help him to make adjustment in society and give him a crime free life. Crime Control Movement It starts from the period of 1970 till the present which laid emphasis on reducing crime in society through the correctional policiesand powers of prosecition. In this model individual liberty and power is given impotance and justice favours criminal rights. Conclusion: From the above mInfluential model of Correction policy it can be said that the nature of punishment have changed a lot till date. Over the past half century we find two challenges i.e., treatment intervention work and showing how to undertake intervention with offenders. the Treatment programmes are effective which have yield significant reductions in recidivism. From the five policy we can say punishment is not being used to change behaviour because it has shown a failure,rehabilitationis not to be used to change behaviour it should be used for therapeutic purposes and now a days we can also dee that we link rehabilitationtob a policyof offender redemtion. So we can say that we are inthe period of medical, community and crime control phase.
