Contemporary dance for me is a unity in between chaos. It has no boundaries, no definitive rules and no state of order that must be incorporated while dancing . It is a chaos and in the midst of the chaos, different rhythm and music consulate together to produce a unified masterpiece. It symbolises organic harmony amidst of the surfaced chaos. The shared dance video represents the same. The dance form is a unison of Indian classical (Bharat Natyam) and the western European dance form(Flamenco). The music uses the traditional Indian classical tune but incorporate English language as a dialect to narrate the act in the dance form. There is a radical break from classicism. It does not restrict itself to deviate from one form of music to another , as we see in between the video (at 5:45). In fact, some dancers in the Indian classical act are not ethic, rather white Europeans. This is symbolic of the revolution in the contemporary dance form; a separation from the stagnant racial identity. This video is fluid in its representation of art and doesn't hesitate to break the law of ethnicity (i.e. art has racial biasness ). This kind of dance is relatively nascent and merges imagery, language , fashion and all race in it. Therefore, I believe this music video of unison of Indian classical and Western dance form is a suitable example of what one terms as contemporary dance form.
