Question
Identify the outcome and the exposure then identify whether the study is descriptive or analytic. If the study is descriptive give the study type (case report or series, or cross sectional). If the study is analytic tell whether it is experimental or observational.
A random sample of middle-age sedentary females was selected from four census tracts, and each woman was examined for heart disease. All those having the disease were excluded from the study. All others were randomly assigned to either an exercise group, which followed a 2-year program of systematic exercise, or a control group, which had no exercise program. Both groups were observed semiannually for any differences in the incidence of heart disease.
Explanation / Answer
1) The outcome of the study is unspecified heart disease measures.
2) The exposure of the study is to pursue regular systematic exercise.
3) The study is analytical. And it is an experimental study.
