Explanation / Answer

The article talks about the pros and cons of having private prisons and analyses the need to have private services in order to save tax payers money on different spending. The article also analyses the importance of having government intervention time and again in order to have better control because it's all about a nation's safety and security. Although most of the services are contracted to private firm, they are not left aloof but they are expected to be accountable.

One of the mos important things today is that the government should run certain basic and most important functions in the society and government such as education, medicine, military and policing. If these are privatized, then the chances are more that their prices are going to go up and poor people may not be able to get those services. This may further increase the crime rate in the society.

America is an individualistic and capitalistic country that puts more stress on privatization of services. Making prison services private comes with its own price which is the safety of the private prisons as the article opens with the information on two inmates escaping from a private prison and trying to kill a newly wed couple in order to steal from them. So, saving the lives of the tax payers is more important than saving the tax payers money. Thus the government should think of intervening and checking the progress of the state funded private facilities.

I conclude this paper by saying that private prisons have started attracting more inmates, so the security measures in these prisons need to be improved as well. Privatization is good but not at the cost of both the lives of the inmates and the lives of the public. Government needs to step in to check whether the state funded and privately owned prisons are effective, safe and secure in order to ensure the safety of the public.
