He states that he will defend himself against the charges of the “first accusers” first, and then he will take up the charges put forward by the “later accusers”. Who are the “first accusers” and who are the “later accusers”? Socrates maintains that one of these groups of accusers is more “dangerous”. Which group of accusers is the more “dangerous” group? Maletus was the first acuser in Socrates apology. He was a port and initiated the prosecution but his speach did not survives and Socrates successes to defend himself in first three hours.
Anytus was the later acusers. They are powerful middle class politician family they put the driving force behind the prosecution of Socrates.
