Part 1 – Example Pairs
Choose one of the following pairs, then consider the possible communication choices for both the underlined participants.
A parent and his/her sixteen-year-old discussing curfew rules.
The possible communication choice in this case would be face-to-face communication as discussing the curfew rules is rather a technical topic which may or may not always interest a teenager. Therefore, in order to grab the interest, the parents could possibly sit with some visuals of the events that had led to the curfew in the State in the past. Such visuals could be availed primarily from internet and presented to them. Once the events are known to them, it shall probably instigate the curiosity in the teenager to know more about the aftermath of such events. It shall be during this time, that the curfew’s significance could be explained to the sixteen-year old individual. In fact, a face-to-face communication would help him/her clarify more doubts revolving around the curfew rules, with the parents, especially in the cases, where such a teenager has not witnessed curfew before.
