A friend’s father has been spending his retirement restoring a 1942 Ford pickup truck. He started working on the truck 4 years ago and spent the first 2 years stripping off the old paint and cleaning the engine components using a variety of chemicals. He works on the truck in the enclosed garage, sometimes with the engine running for short periods of time. He feels stressed because he is behind schedule in getting the truck ready for an upcoming car show in the area. Recently, you friend’s father visited his physician because of persistent headaches and sore throats. He also complained of fatigue and was catching colds more frequently than usual. The physician admitted the father to the hospital because of an unusual red blood cell count and white blood cell abnormalities. Your friend is very concerned about her father’s health and she is seeking your advice about his illness. What can you tell her about the probable cause of her father’s ailments?

Ans-The white cell abnormalities may be causing the sore throats and colds by the inhalation of different toxic substances used to strip paint and clean engine part and RBCs abnormalities cause the anemia,headaches and tiredness which can be due to the Chemical exposure and carbon monoxide poisoning, this carbon monoxide produced by the engine running, thus building up Carbon Monoxide is his blood, lowering its ability to carry oxygen.
