a. HPc b. OPc c. OPif d. HPif

One effect of injury is inflammation which leads to an increased permeability of blood capillaries in the injured area and swelling

Which factor that plays a role in capillary dynamics is the most likely cause of this localized edema?

a. HPc b. OPc c. OPif d.HPif

Explanation / Answer

1.HPc - Capullary hydrostatic pressure.

Filtration- It is a pressure driven mechanism of bulk flow of fluid . here the fluid flows from high pressure in the capillary to the low pressure in the tissues.

As we know , hydrostatic pressure is the pressure exerted by the blood on the capillary wall , which causes its outflow into the tissues. Therefore , hydrostatic pressure of capillary is the force driving the filtration.

2.OPc- Oncotic pressure of capillaries-

Reabsorption- It is the movement of fluid from the high pressure in the tissue to low pressure in the capillaries . This means there is movement of fluid from high solute concentration to low solute concentration.

This is done by the osmotic or Oncotic pressure .

3.HPc- capillary hydrostatic pressure -

The localized Edema is caused when the blood flows from capillaries to the interstitial fluid , Which is contributed to elevated capillary hydrostatic pressure.

More the HPc , more of the fluid moves from the capillaries to the interstitial fluid through filtration .

Other than that , decreased Oncotic pressure also contributes to the flirtation process.
