QUESTION 1 Osteoblasts are cells that: a are responsible for bone resorption O b. produce collagen fibers of the bone matrix OC produce substances that prevent calcium phosphate crystals from forming Od none of the above QUESTION 2 Bone remodeling O a. O b, occurs as a response to levels of calcium in the blood O ensures calcium homeostasis critical for muscle contraction, nerve conduction and blood clotting Od. all of the above includes deposition and resorption of calciumExplanation / Answer
1.b) produce collagen fibers of bone matrix
Osteoblasts are bone forming cells which produce matrix of bone such as collagen fibers mainly type l collagen which give bone its flexibility.
Bone resorption is done by osteoclasts
2. D) all the above
Bone remodelling is a life long process where bone resorption (mature bone tissue is removed from skeleton) and bone formation (deposition of new bone tissue) occur. It is based on the mineral content of blood mainly calcium and phosphate. It maintains a calcium homeostasis. When calcium in the blood is elevated (due to hyperparathyroidism or else) the bone deposition occur and when calcium level in blood decreases (due to hypoparathyroidism or else) bone resorption occur. Calcium homeostasis is necessary for muscle contraction, nerve conduction and blood clotting
