Method to Compare Excel Cells Equivalent to Quality in MS Word Track Changes

Hi All,

Currently we're using Microsoft Word with a massive table that is quite dysfunctional - I was told that we're doing this because we have to track changes at the same level of precision provided by Word and that Excel is incapable of this. I tried the track changes in Excel and I'm convinced that the track changes just is horribly limited.

That being said - if at all possible moving to Excel for this table would be best.

So my question:

Is there any tool or method available to track changes in Excel that is equivalent to Word. This has to include tracking things like format of fonts (italics, bold, etc...), new insertions, deletions, etc...

Thanks in advance

?.
I think the options depend on why you are tracking changes. Are you using this as a group editing tool, where it needs to be dynamic? Or are you just interested in knowing who changed what (and when) but only for audit purposes, and the rest of the time you only want to see the current version??/

If it is the latter, I would suggest looking into sharepoint. Your file resides on sharepoint (which is really just a layer on top of you LAN), but you can easily set it to keep a copy every time someone saves the workbook back to Sharepoint- a complete audit trail.

If you are using it as a group editing tool, then hopefully someone else will have helpful suggestions or know of 3rd party tools that do this, I haven't ever been inclined to use Excel for tracking changes (at least not in the sense that Word does it- I do it with VBA and hidden copies of worksheets, when needed)
