I have tried searching videos, the web etc and I am a novice at spreadsheets and can't seem to get what I want out of excel. So here is what I am trying to do if anyone can help. I would like to insert a button or some other visual to give on of three choices: The button would be in the cell D9 If clicked one way the contents of cell D8 would be inserted into E9 If toggled negative E9 would be entirely blank with no entry If clicked the third way the contents of cell D10 would be inserted into E9 I can't seem to figure out the button to use for this. I also tried some formulas but get an error about too many arguments. The formula I tried was a little different than my button idea because I wasn't getting anywhere with that, but here is the formula I tried: D10 =IF(C8,D8," ",IF(C10,D10," ")) Although the formula would give me an acceptable result if I could get it right, the spreadsheet would be really great and simple to use for people like me if I could get the button idea to work instead. First of all, a formula can not change the value of another cell. It can only return a value to the cell that it is in. So, in your illustration, the formula must be in cell E9, not D10; since E9 is the cell whose value you want to change.
Forgetting about buttons for a minute, if you had another cell (for argument's sake say H22) whose value changed the way you want, (say 0, 1 2) then the formula in E9 would be:
=if(h22=1,D8,if(H22=0,"",D10))
Now, all you have to do is to figure out how to set H22 to 1, -1, or 0. A button can trigger a macro, but does not set a value. A check box or option button can set a value to true or false. You might try a spin button with a minimum valuse of 0, maximum of 2 and increment of 1. Assign the linked cell to H22 whose values will theen be 0, 1 or 2.
