Hi
I am an experienced Excel user and last month upgraded from Excel 2007 to 2013 and I am using Windows 7.
All is well other than an annoying bug that I cannot seem to fix. It is such a simple thing and maybe I am just being stupid, but sometimes - I guess 30% of the time - I select a range as normal by left clicking and dragging to highlight the cells. But instead of then being able to right click and format, or select options from the toolbar, clicking these options does nothing. They are greyed out.
I have found that right clicking displays the usual option box, but all except paste options is greyed. Also the box is displayed in the top left corner of the screen, not next to the selection as is usual.
The only solution I have found is to right click another cell within the selection. This does not always work. Then I must select a cell outside the selection and excel returns to normal, but now I have lost the selection and my cells remain unchanged. I must then repeat until it allows me to do this simple task
If it was just a once a day problem I could live with it, but it happens frequently. I cannot find a pattern of it working on certain spreadsheets only, or if cells have any particular format.
Below you can see a screen dump of the problem after selecting a range. On the toolbar, all except "Find & Select" is greyed out.
Also after I right clicked, the option box has appeared in the left hand corner, with the options greyed out except "Paste Options", "Filter" & " Sort". (btw clicking on those options does nothing.
Is this just me... or does anyone else experience this issue or is there some new function in 2013 causing this that I am missing. I have looked on-line to see if there is a solution, but so far I have found nothing.

Try to disable all Add-Ins for a day, and then see the behaviour for a day.
Most probably it should be some Add-in which is creating such issue, Have you recently updated any new Addin also, if so remove that one, otherwise disable all the addins and then observe.
