Question

Mobius Strip Make a Mobius Strip as follows: Cut a standard piece of paper (8 ½ x 11) into 3 strips lengthwise. Join the strips together with tape, making sure that the pieces are completely connected with tape, to form one long strip. Join the two ends of the long strip together with tape, with a "twist" so that the top of one end is matched with the bottom of the other end. You have a Mobius Strip!! 1. Using a marker or highlighter, trace around the outside of the Mobius Strip. Using a different color, trace along the top edge of the strip. What do you notice? 2. Carefully cut the strip I half lengthwise, being careful not to break the "tape" connections. What do you notice? 3. Repeat step #2, cutting the Mobius strip in half again lengthwise. What do you notice?

Explanation / Answer

ANS(a): You will find both edges are colored and this indicates that the Mobius strip has only one edge!

ANS(b): It does not make two seperate loops, instead you now have a single, larger one-sided loop.

ANS(c): When you are done. You would notice that one small ring and one larger ring are connected together.
