Question
I need help with this problem! Could someone please show me and explain the steps?? Thank you
Give two inference proofs that together prove the following two-sided inference: n is even (7*n + 4) is even where the domain of n is the set of all positive integers. (Hint: prove by direct inference: n is even => (7*n + 4) is even. Then, prove by indirect inference: n is odd => + 4) is odd.)Explanation / Answer
so lets prove n even => 7n +4 is even so if n is even, then 7n is even 4 is also even, adding two even numbers together makes an even number os 7n+4 is even now we are going to prove the contrapositive of 7 n+4 even -> n even that is n odd -> 7 n +4 odd if n is odd 7n is also odd odd + even is odd so 7n + 4 is odd since n odd -> 7 n +4 odd this means that not 7n+4 odd -> not n odd or rather 7n+4 even -> n even
