Q.1 Discuss on the implication of this structure.
Ans. This Hourglass model specifies the working of different apllication protocols and communication by single protocol which is IP. This model truly represent current working of IP. This is a single layer model. This model specifies innovation upon previous IP Model. Hourglass model supports to execute application on all tyoes of network. It supports different types of network to packet switching.
Q.2 How do you see this structure play out in your daily life when you use so many network applications?
Ans. Internet has become a part of daily life. Every day we came into contact of education related information, driving, shopping, surfing, chatting and many more. So, IP is everywhere and this hourglass model defines clearly how different protocols makes an internet architecture. When two computers wish to exchange information over a network they need to use a protocol which defines the "rules of the road" that each computer must follow so that the systems on the network can exchange data. This model describes all protocols, delivering of packets from the source host to the destination host solely based on the IP addresses and also covers the future need.
Q.3 What does this mean for the IP protocol that routes packets and controls the networking function in the Internet?
Ans. Data is routed from source to destination through a series of routers. The IP protocol enable routers to build up a forwarding table that correlates final destinations with next hop addresses. IP Protocol helps in packet forwarding including routing through intermediate routers, since it knows the address of neighboring network nodes, and it also manages quality of service. It manages the assembling of a message or file into smaller packets.
Q.4 How do you relate this structure with the concept of convergence ?
Ans. This structure supports transmitting all information(voice, data, music, video, TV, teleconferencing, etc.). It act as a single foundation for various functions that traditionally had their own platforms. This structure integrate discrete network elements and stay up-to-date with IP and its associated protocols. It supports to link subsystems and networks that include shared Ethernet LANs, dedicated WAN links and ATM networks.
