Explanation / Answer
Q1.
In your opinion, which computer applications offer the most promise for making the world a better place? Which computer applications pose the most significant threats to our future well-being?
ANS : EDUCATION is the best computer apllication
Education :
The computer has provided a lot of facilities in the education system.
Which computer applications pose the most significant threats to our future well-being?
Instant Messengers are a threat to literacy and correct grammar because people hardly ever type correctly. And if they do, they still don't use proper capitalization or punctuation. They abbreviate short words like 'you' and 'are'. If this continues, the world will be uncivilized. Important documents like the Constitution may be illegible.
The computer provides a tool in the education system known as CBE (Computer Based Education).
CBE involves control, delivery, and evaluation of learning.
The computer education is rapidly increasing the graph of number of computer students.
There are number of methods in which educational institutions can use computer to educate the students.
It is used to prepare a database about performance of a student and analysis is carried out on this basis.
Q2
Why do computer manufacturers typically make their new processors backward compatible with earlier processors ?
Ans : If products designed for the new standard can receive, read, view or play older ... Thereverse is forward compatibility, which implies that old devices allow (or are ... Manycomputer programs "know" their own software versioning number, and ... for use on PowerPC Macs to run on Apple systems that use Intel processors.
Q3.
What kinds of new input and output devices do you think future computers might have? Why?
Ans : In the future inputs devices will be more intelligent than now. Computer and technologies is growing with high speed. Big fishes of internet doing everything for users and they want profit. Google, apple, Samsung, Microsoft etc. are running for the first bite of profit cake.
10 input devices of the future
Voice recognition

A tangible user interface in which a person interacts with digital data & information through physical environment.

Multi-touch refers to the ability of a surface (a track pad or touchscreen) to recognize the presence of two or more points or people of contact with the surface.
Head Tracking

Motion Capture
It includes face and fingers or captures subtle expressions. In many fields, motion capture is sometimes called motion tracking.
Wearable Interface
Wearable technologies contains a pocket projector, a mirror and a camera contained in a head-mounted, handheld or pendant-like, wearable device. Both the projector and the camera are connected to a mobile computing device in the user’s pocket.
Electroencephalography (EEG)
Eelectroencephalography (EEG) is the recording of electrical activity along the scalp. EEG measures voltage fluctuations resulting from ionic current flows within the neurons of the brain.
Brain Computer Interface
Brain Computer Interface is a direct communication way between the brain and an external device. BCIs are often directed at assisting, augmenting, or repairing human cognitive or sensory-motor functions.
Q4.
Some believe Web applications will soon replace PC applications for most purposes. What do you think? What would it take to make this practical?
Ans : Maybe not for high end games, but for most productivity and web browsing tasks, this would I really don't see how this is going to happen any time soon, and by soon I mean in the next 10 to 15 years.
Web-based apps have already completely replaced for
* email
* calendar
* chat
* task list
* mapping & directions
* feed reading
* encyclopedia / dictionary
* photo storage
* financial information (CapitalIQ)
* simple word processing
* simple spreadsheets
* casual games
In the next 5 years I suspect web-based applications will also handle:
* complex word processing
* complex spreadsheets
* complex photo manipulation
* complex presentations
* serious games
Q5.
What do you think of the arguments that word processing reduces the quality of writing because it makes it easy to write in a hurried and careless manner and it puts the emphasis on the way a document looks rather than on what it says?
Ans : I believe when you're given a sufficient amount of time you are able to write your thoughts clearly than when you're given a short period of time to answer questions or make an argument on an essay BUT there is a drawback with the tools within the word processing. Word processing comes with a spell check but it does not correct homonyms such as they're, theirand there or other homonyms. My experience with word processing is that I always need time to effectively write something and that helps me make less grammatical mistakes when I take my time to write and edit my paper, I guess it all depends on the individual in their writing skills.
Q6.
Presentation software can help you produce good presentations and bad presentations. Describe several factors that would distinguish the two.
Ans : presentation software can be a wonderful tool if used correctly. It can also be a dangerous distraction that interferes with communication rather than facilitating it. The line between the two is thin.
