Explanation / Answer

MS-DOS Operating system

Advantages :

-MS-DOS is very lightweight and it allows direct access to almost all hardware thorugh command line.

-This operating system is very lightweight.

- It also doesnot support multitasking therefore there is less overhead and less latency.

- It will boot much faster than any other operating system.

Disadvantages :

- It has command line user interface therefore it is very less user friendly.

- Very less number of applications are supported in DOS.

- It is depreciated by microsoft thats why no more updates will be available to MS-DOS.

- It does not support multitasking so, only one application can be run on this OS at a time.

Windows Operating System

Advantages :

- Windows support large amount of application programs, specially graphics related softwares(like games, adobe, etc).

- Windows has much advancement which makes it user friendly.

- Windows has excellent GUI, most of the popularity of the windows is just because of its GUI.

- Web design programs having windows is very easy and supportable.

Disadvantages :

- Windows is more prone to virus and other attacks.

- When it comes to GUI, one does not have the total control over the hardware system.

- It is a proprietary software and hence tends to be more expensive as compared to other Operating system.

- It is a multitasking operating system that's why it has high resource requirement like hardware, faster processor, etc.

UNIX and Linux operating system

Advantages :

- It is an open source operating system, therefore it's code is available for anyone to fork the code and create their own operating system.

- It has huge family of it's distributions (distros) therefore, one has alot of special purpose operating system options to choose from.

- Linux has alot of distributions hence an attacker has to do alot of work to attack on the whole family of linux operating system, therefore there is very less chance that a malware or virus is created for a linux operating system because those malwares or computer virus has to be OS specific.

- It has most of the alternatives to applications on windows.

Disadvantages :

- In most cases linux distros are maintained by open source community over the internet hence, the maintainence of each distros is difficult and therefore, one has unstable releases to choose from, but eventually one has the option for the stable releases also.

- These operating systems (in most cases) are designed by the programmer who gives more priority to utility rather than its appearance. Hence the UI is not upto the mark.

- It is not suited for graphics related applications, like image editing, video editing, etc.
