1. List and describe any three major entities in the organization database with their primary key.
I have worked for a bank that offered loans across USA. We had a central database implemented in iSeries, which contained loan information as big as 15 million loan records across USA.
The key entitiy was loans, customers and documents. Every loan , customer and document had a primary key value to identify it uniquely. The loan database would contain information such as amount of loan taken, interest period and so forth, Customer database would contain customer name, address, contact and so forth. Documents would be scanned version of documents collected through the entire duration of loan especially title paper copy.
Sharing the exact primary key id description would be against compliance standards.
2. Describe any three IT resources that may be shared on the organization intranet.
Employees, Company, Jobs intranet websites were key resources in our bank.
My company had around 15000 employees in India alone and they were scattered in three different states. The employee website enabled retrieving detailed information on any employee.
As the bank offered various services like opening a simply bank account, wealth management, home loans, some limited to USA and some services scattered across all nations, the company intranet website provided updates and information on every department. It provided information on who was leading it and how to reach them. The department would offer information detailed information on sub departments and processes.
The internal job posting website was very useful. It helped employees to shift jobs within the bank across departments. The website would constantly post jobs. It helps reduce attirition , increases satisfaction.and offers a growth path. It reduced the time and cost to hire. Employee background checks, ID creation was not needed, Reference check, interview processes were quick.
3. Name and briefly explain any one cross functional enterprise application and two functional business systems that should be used by the organization and why
The Home Loans Enterprise application had three main functional business systems.
a. Originations
b. Processing
c. Closure
Each had its own business system and specific defined function. Originations had the function to manage all requests for new loans and convert them into processed loans across USA. Processing had the function to manage all originated loans and manage then through the entire loan period which may last from 10 year to 30 year. The Closure managed all loans that were closed normally as Payoff or out of abnormal situation like bankruptcy or foreclosure.
The systems were interconnected as the information was the same. Shared systems across originations, processing and closure helped provide better services to customer with least interaction between departments. The shared information made sure , information was not duplicated, data integrity was maintained, storage space was saved, processing needs were low, department was efficient and productive.
