Question
I have to write a research paper for a technical class. The research paper needs to have an abstract. I am confused about how to format the spacing.
For example, I know that I have to have the title of my research paper with the abstract directly underneath.
Do I have to write the words "Abstract" under my title?
Do I start my introduction right after my abstract, as in, on the same page? Or do I start my abstract on the next page?
What should the font size be for the title of the paper?
Do I need to have subtitles for my paragraphs? For example, Abstract for the abstract, Introduction for the introduction, etc...? What should the formatting be for these subtitles, if they are needed?
Explanation / Answer
Abstract is a standalone document that describes the essential information of a paper, article, document or a book.
abstract should be written as last part before submitting the paper. abstract is like a mini paper.
rules to write an abstract:
heading:
the heading Abstract should be written on the top center of the page.
Body:
abstract body should not exceed an A4 sheet. maximum words can be 300.
title:
title of the paper should be below the heading abstract
. title should be bold, with capital letters and font type is times new roman and size is 16.
font:
font type should be Times new roman in most of the cases and font size should be 12 for the body of the abstract and 16 for the title of the paper
Margins: top margin should be 4cm left and right margins 3cm each.
An abstract should be a single paragraph summary but you can use subtitles in the paper but not in the abstract
never include information that doesnt include in the paper.
subtitles:
subtitles should be avoided uless absolutely necessary. if they are writen, they should be left justified( there is justify symbol in word document), font size is 12,italic,times new roman and only the first letter should be capitalized.
