Question

Consider the ethical dilemma surrounding deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) in Australian industries, as reported in the following media item:

"Australia’s big businesses are embracing artificial intelligence (AI), with two-thirds planning to replace jobs, or already replacing them, with computer technology.
...
The biggest issue for most Australian companies looking to use AI is an ethical one. For example, where and when to deploy it, and whether or not it impacts humanity."

Analyse the above issue using the philosophical ethics perspectives.

Explanation / Answer

Majority of Australian companies are embracing the artificial intelligence. Embracing

artificial intelligence will affect the human in the following ways.

Unemployment: If the companies will replace the human by some robots it means rather using the human for their work if they will start working with the artificial intelligence king of thing then the human will lose their jobs in that condition and that will generate the unemployment in the system.

Artificial stupidity. How can we guard against mistakes? Intelligence comes from learning, whether you are human or machine. Systems usually have a training phase in which they learn how to detect the right patterns and act per their input. Once a system is fully trained, it can then go into test phase, where it is hit with more examples and we see how it performs.

Obviously, the training phase cannot cover all possible examples that a system may deal with in the real world. These systems can be fooled in ways that humans would not be. For example, random dot patterns can lead a machine to “see” things that are not there. If we rely on AI to bring us into a new world of labor, security and efficiency, we need to ensure that the machine performs as planned, and that people can’t overpower it to use it for their own ends.

There are many more problems that will come into the picture if we will replace the human

with the machines.

Replacing the human by the machines will also make good impact on the business

companies. Whereas the human take so much of time for doing a work, the machine

which we are calling Artificial intelligence does the same work in a very less time. Thus,

this is the main reason that the machine is being embraced by the business companies.

Therefore, the machine is very useful do the work in a very short time. It will also create

the problem for humans. If the companies keep taking help from the machine, in that case

the human will start losing their jobs which is not good for the human.
