If two computers are connected by hub using fast ethernet.
d = 512 m and c = 3*10^8 m/s
i)
t=d/c = 512 m / 3*10^8 m/s = 1706.66*10^-9 sec
Now hub using fast ethernet has 100Mbps speed then
minimum frame size = 100Mbps * 1706.66*10^-9 sec = 170.666 bits or 170 bits
ii)
If switch is used then speed will be 10/100 Mbps or 1 Gbps
So frame size will be 17/170 or 1706 bits.
Difference comes because of speed and switches operate at Layer 2 of the OSI model and Hubs are classified as Layer 1 devices per the OSI model.
