If one computer wants to communicate with another computer, it can address the information to the remote computer's IP address.IP addresses allow network resources to be reached through a network interface.Networks can be isolated from one another, and each IP address must be unique on its own network.

The process of dividing a network into smaller network sections is called subnetting generally used at the organizational level which can be used for different purposes.each network has only one subnet, which contains all of the host addresses defined within.A subnet mask is another netmask within used to further divide the network.It allows to take a class or block of IP addresses and further cut it up into groups of IPs.The first IP in the range is assigned to the Subnet ID and the last IP in the range is assigned to the broadcast IP.
