In a meeting between businesses of different cultures, awareness of the other’s differences is key. There are many societal norms and beliefs that can cause a cultural collision and tank any business dealing. Because Americans have a deal-focused culture while the Chinese prefer a relationship-focused culture, Americans should not rush into a meeting with a contract (Sullivan et al., 2017, p. 30). The Chinese place much more value in information not directly related to conducting business than Americans, as they seek to build a trusting relationship. Trust is essential to honoring contracts, so that means slow negotiation and what Americans think of as ‘wasting time’. There can also be many differences in what is considered polite conduct. Chinese society is more formal, so researching differences in social conduct is important. For example, there is a stricter hierarchy in China, where people with higher status should be respected in certain ways. It is depicted that cultural differences in business is quite common and in order to be successful in a global aspect, organizations need to be aware of the differences in work culture that they possess. I would agree to the dicussion regarding the differences that we have with the Chinese people and we both need to have a mutual respect for our culture and way of doing business. It is true that we believe in a deal focussed culture but the Chinese don't do that instead they believe in a relationship focussed culture as they believe that building relationships is the key and that is one thing that actually sustain and is very much important in this context as well.
We value time over veverything which is quite ok but in the process we may compromise in quality but the Chinese believe that it is all about trust and relationship that helps a business grow and develop in order to be successful and effect time in the industry. The Chinese society is quite formal unlike our society and we should be careful not to offend them unintentionally.
