Question
Please I need someone can give me an answer I doing my final now, please
CASE: Jane is 18-years-old and a recent high school graduate who lives in a small town of about 2,700 people. She has a part-time job as a waitress in the town's only restaurant, and she had no health insurance. Most of the town's residents rely on a larger city nearby for shopping, recreation, and health care. Jane had dated Dave the past 2 years, but there was never any talk of marriage. Just before graduation she learned that she was pregnant, but this did not stop her from smoking and consuming "small amounts" of alcohol and drugs while hanging out with Dave. As she was completing her seventh month of pregnancy, Jane went into premature labor. An ambulance rushed her to the emergency room of the hospital in the nearby city, where she gave birth. The doctors determined that the baby was not only premature, it also appeared to have other "developmental abnomalities." When asked whether she had received any prenatal care, Jane replied, "No, I couldn't afford it. Besides, I didn't know where to go to get help". (6 points)
1. If Jane had received prenatal care, how could it have helped in the normal development of the infant? Explain what happens during prenatal visits.
2. What government or community program could have helped Joan obtain affordable prenatal care?
3. The cost of treating Joan's infant could run into hundreds of thousands of dollars, and there is no guarantee that the child will survive. Do you think that it would be more cost effective to ensure prenatal care to all pregnant women in the US or to continue under the system that only pregnant women with insurance get prenatal care? Which one would you advocate? Explain briefly.
Explanation / Answer
Prenatal care is the regular check-ups that allow doctors, nurses or midwives to treat and prevent any kind of health problems during pregnancy and to keep the mother and future baby healthy. If Jane had received prenatal care she will get proper advices and medication from the doctors to improve the development of her newborn. She could have stopped smoking and alcoholic consumption which affected the child badly. And also doctors will come to know about the baby’s development abnormalities trough regular check-ups, and they should treat it accordingly. They can monitor the baby’s growth and deals quickly if any complications happen. In each visit doctors should examine the baby thoroughly and give proper advices to the mother about the medication and the healthy lifestyle which will helps to get a healthy baby and mom. The government or other community program could have help Jane by reducing financial problems through insurance and other source of payment. They should identify the women in need of prenatal care through community canvassing, hotlines, and provide social support to the needy. They should have provided programs give medical care, information, advice and other services for healthy pregnancy. Prenatal care is the complete routine check-ups for the pregnant women during pregnancy. By doing this doctors can understand any kind of complications to the baby as well as the mother and start the medication accordingly. It helps to get a healthy baby and mother. If pregnant women with health insurance will only go prenatal care, then a lot of cases will happen like Jane’s. The chances of health problem in babies are more for the one who is not getting prenatal care during pregnancy. Most of the financially poor female cannot afford this treatment. Government must take the initiation to make the prenatal care more cost effective. In my opinion all pregnant women must get prenatal care, then only healthy babies will born which will lead a healthy society. A healthy society is the key factor of a healthy nation.
